SONG REVIEW: “Oga” by Terry G

Let me share a secret with you before starting the review. Terry G actually came by this beat by chance, he was moved by it and felt like doing something wonderful on it. He wanted to kill it but immediately he entered the studio, he forgot his lyrics and just kept on rambling till the beat stopped! When the beat comes up at first, the next thing that comes to your mind is that it is time for serious gyration, even with the introduction of the flute (which is common to the Igbo people’s gyration), you may be tempted to get a handkerchief too but when our Honourable Mr Terry G begins to sing, he pours cold water on the whole thing. Fine, we know Terry G isn’t the lyricist type but this one is way out of it. He leaves the beat crying for a better “beat murderer” as he keeps on mentioning people’s names while chorusing it with “oga”. There is nothing special in this song, even herbalists will do better. I could also enter a studio, be given a beat and start mentioning names —– winsome boss, wb, solace, engineer goso, etc ( my ogas at the top). RATING: Even though Terry G in his songs isn’t particular about lyrics, he only wants us to get busy on the dance floor, he doesn’t do this brilliantly here because the song becomes boring as he only keeps mentioning names. You could only force yourself to be patient with the song. A five and a half over ten is ‘OK’ for it.
